Concept
This project was inspired by the DPA animation La Cuadrada (more on La Cuadrada can be found at the film’s blog).
In the Cube World virtual environment, the user finds him or herself in a strange world of monotonous, rectuangular purple buildings. The intro music from La Cuadrada loops while the user walks around a courtyard-like area surrounding a lone, looming building. The user is free to explore the area, but is confined to the courtyard. We see Mini-Blockman sitting dejectedly at the foot of a great elevator. Nothing happens until the user enters the elevator. If the user stays there for a certain amount of time, the elevator responds to the user and begins to rise. This also queues the music to switch to the climatic middle section of the La Cuadra soundtrack. As the elevator rises, other buildings come out of the ground and rise up as well; about halfway up the building, the elevator changes from circular to square.
Once the user reaches the top of the elevator, Mini-Blockman walks toward the far edge of the rooftop. Should the user choose to follow, they will see giant yellow blocks fall from the ceiling that complete the rooftop and the music switches to the finale of the La Cuadrada soundtrack. The user is able to climb on top of the yellow blocks should they wish, but watch your step, it certainly is a long fall. Just ask Mini-Blockman…
